It’s all about mindset . From the moment you wake up, to the moment you put your head down to rest at night, everything is up to you. Your emotions, your thoughts, your perceptions, your reactions, every moment is dependent on your mindset.

Mindset

A word that has been thrown around since the 1930s, back then meaning “habits of mind formed by previous experience”. The definition from an online dictionary is “a complex mental state involving beliefs, feelings, values and dispositions to act in certain ways”. Thank goodness for the freedom of choice!  We can change our mindset. With some coaching and some self-work, you are able to form new neural pathways as the brain has the ability to develop and change over time. This is known as neuroplasticity.

Success

I think success features in most people’s goals. The truth is very few individuals become what they want to be. More often than not we refer to these people as being lucky. Here’s a truth – life is deliberate and you are solely responsible for yours. This means you are what you are because of your beliefs. The key to changing your life is to begin with changing your mindset, as this is where the thoughts of success or failure start. Regardless of your background, mindset is crucial to improve every aspect of your life.

There is a saying; “You are who you surround yourself with …”, meaning if you surround yourself with people that lack the habits and attitudes of success, you will become demotivated. On the flip side, if you surround yourself with people that continuously challenge you to level up, your mindset will level up.

You become what you focus on

By taking stock of the focus of your thoughts you will become aware this is true. Without changing your mindset, you will not become who you wish to become or achieve what you wish to achieve. Problems cannot be overcome with the mindset that created them. By taking responsibility for your actions you will find you may not have been in the right mindset when making that decision and this will put you in a position to correct your actions.

Mindset is greatly influenced by values. Values have the capacity to impact a person’s behaviour.  They provide broad guidelines in all circumstances. Knowing what your values are will help you understand why you react badly to some situations and what drives you daily. It helps you when you’re in the space between action and reaction called pause. This is the place where you choose the way you are going to react.

No One-Size-Fits-All

There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to mindset. Start shifting your mindset by focusing on your inner state where actions and reactions are generated. This shifting of focus starts by moving from the outside to the inside, as the outside is a reflection of the inside. The quickest way to create an internal shift is to change your internal dialogue from “I can’t” too “I can”. Take action – start shifting.
